Arizona Inmates Going Vegetarian

When it comes to the amenities inmates receive and who should foot the bill, there has been much contention among American citizens. Whether it’s their television bills, or their menu options, tax payers often question just how much should be given to convicted inmates.

In a short, Yahoo news article written by Eric Pfeiffer, one Sheriff in Arizona has found yet another way to cut down the cost on taking care of inmates by switching them over to a completely vegetarian diet. By getting rid of all the meat and replacing it with soy and vegetables, Sheriff Joe Arpaio states that Arizona’s Maricopa County will save $100,000 a year. That’s the money saved in food, on top of the fact that inmates must continue paying for their own meals.
